BriGRETE Workshops at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki: Advancing Research Ethics in Higher Education

How do researchers ensure that participants fully understand a study before taking part? How is sensitive information protected? And why are privacy and confidentiality essential for trustworthy research?

These were some of the key questions explored during two interactive workshops held at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, dedicated to Informed Consent, Confidentiality, and Privacy in research.

Bringing together researchers and students the workshops provided a space for open discussion and practical reflection on the ethical challenges that arise throughout the research process. Through real-life examples and case studies, participants examined how ethical principles are applied in practice and why they are fundamental to conducting responsible, transparent, and participant-centred research.

The sessions highlighted that research ethics is much more than a regulatory requirement—it is the foundation for building trust, protecting participants' rights, and ensuring the integrity and credibility of scientific work.

The lively exchange of ideas and active participation demonstrated the growing interest in strengthening ethical awareness within the research community and fostering a culture of responsibility and respect.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined the workshops and contributed to the engaging discussions. A special thank you goes to Prof. Igglezakis for sharing his expertise and valuable insights, which greatly enriched the sessions and inspired meaningful dialogue.

These workshops are part of the ongoing BriGRETE – Bridging the Gap: Research Ethics Training and Education initiative, supporting researchers across Europe in promoting ethical excellence and responsible innovation.
