Fostering Research Integrity: Highlights from Our University of Split Workshops

Fostering a true culture of scientific integrity requires a shared effort from every level of the academic community. As part of the ongoing BriGRETE project, the University of Split recently hosted a dynamic series of workshops designed to bring these crucial conversations to life.

These sessions turned back to the foundational pillars of responsible science: research methodology, transparency, and ethical publication practices. What made these workshops particularly special was the diverse crowd in attendance. Ranging from undergraduate and PhD students taking their first steps in academic research, to established ethics experts.

Here is a look back at how these sessions unfolded.

Navigating the European Code of Conduct and Responsible Research

The workshops were led by two of our consortium's prominent voices: Prof. Ana Marušić and Mariano Kaliterna. Prof. Marušić, a globally recognized expert in peer review and research integrity, brought her extensive experience in anatomy, medical humanities, and global health research to the table.

Together, they guided the sessions through practical, everyday ethical dilemmas faced by modern researchers. One of the key topics discussed was the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, which serves as a vital framework for self-regulation and responsible practice across European universities. Rather than getting bogged down in dense legalistic rules, the workshops focused on how to easily apply these principles to daily research work.
